WHM (Web Host Manager) Adding a new Plan aka Package for Resellers

Last updated by Ashley Cawley on February 21, 2024 12:51

00:00: Today we're going to take a look at setting up Packages on your Reseller Service.

00:05: Firstly, logging into your WHM control panel can be done in either one of two ways: 1) When your Reseller hosting service was first setup you will have received an email from us containing your WHM login link, username and password. Using those details are the fastest way to get logged in, you can even save the link as a favourite or bookmark. 2) Alternatively, you can login to your account at cloudabove.com, then from the menu click on Services, Reseller Hosting, Login to WHM. Once you have logged in you should see a screen like this.

00:40: So what is a Package? In the context of WHM, Packages control the amount of resources that a project will have access to, for example you could create a package which has 10GB of storage space, and is only allowed a maximum of 5 email accounts. As a Reseller of Web Hosting services it gives you the flexibility of control, as a Developer, Design Studio or Web Host you may choose to have different tiers for your clients, like bronze, silver and gold etc. which would have corresponding packages to control varying amounts of resources.

01:11: If you aren't interested in creating different packages or tiers, that's fine, it is absolutely fine to create just one "unlimited" package which has no limits and all of your projects be assigned to that package.

01:23: OK, lets get started and look at how we create a new package

01:28: From the menu on the left, select Packages.

01:31: Then click, Add a Package.

01:34: Here we see the form which lets us create a new package. It looks complex, but don't worry as most of it can be safely ignored. We only need to select a small number of options.

01:46: First we focus on the Package Name. We could use something like, bronze, or silver, whatever you prefer really.

01:54: In my case so that it is descriptive, I'm going to use 20GB just so it reminds me later on of what limits that package sets.

02:02: Next up is the Disk Space Quota. By default this is set to unlimited but I want to change that

02:09: To do so, I click the Radio button on the left, which then allows me to specify an amount for the storage space limit.

02:16: WHM represents the storage space in megabytes, by default it has 10240 in the box, which is the equivalent to 10GB.

02:26: I'm going to multiply that figure by two and enter in 20480 to set the limit to 20GB. You can enter in any number you like here, to control the size of this package.

02:38: We can see that the next six options are already set to Unlimited, and that's fine, if I'm honest I would probably recommend leaving those as they are, no need to adjust them really.

02:48: Next we see Max Parked Domains and Addon Domains which are set to 0 by default. This allows people to attach additional domains to their cPanel accounts in the future, if they also own similar domains to their main brand for example.

03:02: Quite often we will recommend to people to set both of those to be unlimited as well, but if you wish to strictly control how many domains people can add to cPanel accounts then you can set that here.

03:13: All other options below that point can safely be ignored and left as their defaults. Scroll to the bottom of the page and then click the "Add" button. Just like that you've setup your first package, sometimes referred to as a plan.

03:27: So how do we see which package a project is on, or change their package? Click Account Information

03:34: Then List Accounts

03:37: On this page we can see a Package column on the right, this shows us which Packages websites are on.

03:43: OK, so lets have a go at changing someones package. In WHM there is a Upgrade Downgrade tool, I'm going to use the Search Box in the top left to find it easily

03:54: I start to type the word Upgrade in the box, and it instantly shows me the tool I want. So lets then click on "Upgrade/Downgrade an Account"

04:03: On the Upgrade/Downgrade form, we first need to select the website we wish to change the package for

04:10: So I click the radio button beside the website I want to change the package for. Then I click the Modify button at the bottom.

04:18: It then shows me my selection of different packages that I have setup in the past.

04:23: I choose my 20GB one

04:26: and click on the Upgrade/Downgrade button.

04:29: Just like that, WHM runs around and reconfigures their cPanel account, imposing any new limits or restrictions as specified on the package.

04:38: On the List Accounts page, we can confirm the new package is in place. There is also an alternative way that we can change a package for a site, we can do it from this page as well.

04:49: Click the Plus symbol to show more options

04:52: Select the "Modify Account" option.

04:55: Scroll down a little, and we see a Package area. Click on the "Change" link beside the package name.

05:01: And then we are shown the screen we saw earlier, where we can pick any package we please to assign to this project.

05:08: Congrats! You've just learnt how to create new Packages and then how to assign packages to projects in two different ways. If you need any further assistance then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
