Creating a new cPanel account for Resellers in WHM (Web Host Manager)

Last updated by Ashley Cawley on February 21, 2024 15:29

00:00: Today we're going to take a look at how we setup a new cPanel account for a new project. 00:06: Firstly, logging into your WHM control panel can be done in either one of two ways: 1) When your Reseller hosting service was first setup you will have received an email from us containing your WHM login link, username and password. Using those details are the fastest way to get logged in, you can even save the link as a favourite or bookmark. 2) Alternatively, you can login to your account at cloudabove.com, then from the menu click on Services, Reseller Hosting, Login to WHM. Once you have logged in you should see a screen like this 00:41: Click on the "Create a New Account" button shown here. 00:44: We see the form to setup a new account, it may look long but don't worry we only need to complete a few parts of it 00:51: The first box wants the domain name. Please do not include the www at the front. As an example our domain name would be cloudabove.com 01:02: Next if you click into the Username box you will find that it prefills in a username for you based on your domain name. Its fine to just proceed with what WHM suggests or you can customise it if you wish. 01:14: The next section is where you set a Password for the cPanel account. WHM has a handy Password Generator right there which you can use and it will pre-fill in strong passwords for you. Pro-tip: Its not actually crucial for you to remember or save this password at this stage, because it is trivial to reset the password later on via WHM whenever you need to. 01:36: Enter in a email address which can be associated to this cPanel account. This email address will receive notifications if something may be wrong with the account at some point in the future, for example if it was close to filling its storage quota it would send an email alert to this person to warn them before things became critical. 01:54: Next we select the Package or plan that we would like to apply to this cPanel account. This defines certain quotas. If you'd like to learn more about how Packages work and how to create new ones then we have a separate video covering that topic. 02:09: Lets scroll down so we can see the rest of the options. We can safely ignore and leave this whole section, as the defaults there are usually best left as they are. 02:19: If the domain name will have an email service running on it, whether that be provided by this cPanel account, or, provided by a external provider like Microsoft Office 365 or Google, click on the Mail Routing Settings so we can configure that appropriately. 02:34: These options control how email will be routed for this cPanel account. Usually you have just two main options to focus on and choose from, those being: 1) Local Mail Exchanger 2) Remote Mail Exchanger The first, local one should be picked when you intend to run the email service through this cPanel account and server. The second, Remote one, should be picked when you intend to use a external email service like Microsoft's or Google's etc. 03:02: The rest can be left as is, then click on the Create button. 03:06: And just in a few seconds your cPanel account is created, setup and ready to use, you'll see WHM displays a page like this. 03:15: In the top right corner we have a convenient button which will jump us straight into the cPanel account, lets give it a go 03:22: And here we can see the new cPanel account which is ready to use, on the right it displays useful information like the Shared IP address, which may be needed if you need to update the DNS on Domain Names to get them pointing at this new hosting service. 03:36: Congrats! You now know how to setup a new cPanel account for your exciting new projects. If you require any further assistance then please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.
