00:00: Today we will take a look at rolling a site back to a previous date or time using Scout's backups. You'll be glad to hear that Scout has the easiest to use backup system on the Web, lets take a look.
00:11: First start by logging in at cloudabove.com and then opening your Scout control panel, you will see your sites listed like this.
00:18: Then, I click on the Settings cog beside the site I wish to work on.
00:23: I'm going to click here to open my website
00:26: and here you can see it is working normally.
00:29: For demonstration purposes I'm deleting important website files to simulate a broken site.
00:35: Now we can see the website is broken.
00:38: Thankfully the Scout platform makes it an absolute breeze to roll the website back to a previous state. Select the Backups tab at the top when managing your Site.
00:47: Scroll down the page.
00:50: Here we see our Backups section.
00:53: On the left we will set different dates and times that backups were taken, we can select one like the most recent one, click on the Restore button.
01:01: It will display a drop down menu asking you what you would like to restore. Like, - Just files. - Just the database. - Or restore everything. This can be useful if you know you've been making changes to just some files, then selecting one on its own can be faster to restore. Or if you're unsure you can choose "everything".
01:20: It will prompt with a confirmation, then it will set to work on restoring that backup for you. That's it, just sit back and relax or make a quick coffee, in a few minutes time your website will be restored. Restores can vary in how long they take, it depends on the size of your website
01:36: Keep your eyes peeled for a pop-up notification that will appear in the lower right corner once the Restore process has finished.
01:43: Then, when I test my website again it is back up and running. Some restores for small websites can be done in just a minute or two.
01:51: As you can see restoring backups in Scout is easy. The Scout platform was handcrafted with love by our devoted cloud above team in Cornwall. If you have any feedback then we'd love to hear from you, so please get in touch.
