Cloning a Staging Site to Live

Last updated by Ashley Cawley on February 07, 2024 10:39

00:00: This guide will show you how to clone a staging site to a live site on the Scout platform. Follow these steps to easily transfer your site and ensure a smooth transition. 00:10: We start by logging in to cloudabove.com and then opening the Scout control panel, you'll then see your sites listed like this. 00:17: The top site is my staging or development website. The one beneath is my live site. 00:23: OK, so lets click on the Settings cog beside our staging website. 00:28: On this page we will select the "Tools" menu in the top right. 00:32: A few options become available and we will select, "Clone Site". 00:36: The clone site screen appears and really we only have one choice to make. We need to select the destination where this staging site will be cloned to, so here we select our main domain or live website. It is worth noting that the selected destination will be overwritten with the contents of this site. The two sites are not magically merged, but rather all content is overwritten. So if this is a eCommerce store then you will want to bear this in mind as you could loose recent orders on the live site etc. In those cases your own backup or exporting of orders should be performed first. 01:09: We then click the "Clone" button. 01:12: Scout displays a banner letting us know the clone job has been started in the background, you are free to continue using the Scout control panel in the meantime. 01:20: Once the website clone has finished then you will see a pop-up notification in the lower right corner of your screen. 01:26: Congratulations! You've just learned how to clone a staging or development website into the live position. The Scout platform helps to make light work of this task and many others. We handcrafted Scout with love, if you have any ideas or suggestions for it then we would love to hear from you.
